At&t dsl internet speed question?

I have att dsl direct pro internet that has these specs-

downstream- up to 3.0 mbps

upstream- up to 512 kbps

I did an internet speed test at bandwidthplace.com and here were the results.

download -2522 kbps

upload - 418 kbps

I am not very apt with computers and am not certain what these numbers mean. Is my download speed really slow and does that affect my how my computer runs in general and how it plays videos specifically? What can I do to get my laptop to run faster?

Basically if you could tell me what this info means and any opinions on what I can do to make my computer run smoother that would be great. Thanks in advance and have a fine day.|||Your "theoretical" speed is 3.0 mbps down and 512 kbps. Because your connection isn't a direct connection to bandwidthplace.com it spends some of that bandwidth traveling through the WAN (internet) so your speed will be a tad bit slower on their end. If you're curious how far your computer travels, go to "run" on your computer and type in "cmd" to open a command prompt window. Then type in tracert www.bandwidthplace.com - what it will do is show you all the devices that are between your computer and the computer host at www.bandwidthplace.com...

Another reason you might be losing speed is viruses/adware/malware. Make sure you update your virus scanner often and scan for any files that may be stealing your internet speed to share information about you on the internet. Most anti virus programs don't get rid of adware so you'll need other programs to get rid of that like ad aware...

Lastly, you're on DSL, there's a good chance you're not close enough to you service hub and unfortunately the distance does degrade speed quality but from the looks of things you're doing just fine!!!

Hope that clears it up for you!
