Yesterday i did a speed test and got download speed of 401.29kbps and upload speed was 15.16kbps. Verry Slow!
Today i got 2.535mbps upload and 439.85kbps. Verry fast!
why is that? my network connection light on my 2wire 1800hg gateway modem also goes off sometimes and it looses connection. Any insight??? The test i did is on......helpme.att.net. I typed in speed test in the search and went to result #1 for dsl test|||Hi Justin,
Sometimes you get a variation in speed depending on Internet traffic. Try several sites to check your speed because congestion can give a false reading.

Is this a good speed for an internet provider?
Download speed- 0.14Mb/s
Upload Speed- 0.07Mb/s
I tested it on speedtest.net and it said it was isp average.
(Please let me know what would be typical dsl speed, and typical cable speed or other) i am thinking of getting Directv's internet by WildeBlue sattellite internet with a speed of 1.5 Mbps is this faster than mine? And by how much? Thanxx alot for your help!|||that's a terrible speed!
you should get at least 2MBps
1.5MB is about 10 times faster than 0.14MB

Is there a difference in speed between cable 3.0 mbps and DSL 3.0 mbps?
I have cable at my house, tested as 1.5 mbps, using a speed checker online. When I play game online, everything is fine. But, at my apartment, I have DSL, tested as 3.0 mbps, which is supposedly faster....But, I can't play the same multiplayer game that I play at my house. The character disappears and reappear, even though the ping is fine...(maybe a little higher (slower))
i can't really figure out the cause...I didn't change anything on my computer as I switch (not firewall I guess)
Need advice from experts|||It could be that the DSL upload speed is very slow, or the line is noisy in one direction, causing retries and delays. Are these both tested while plugged in? It could be a router issye then - try resetting that router and see if that helps.|||Cable internet will always be better than adsl in my opinion.|||The only difference is in the way internet is delivered to you.

There is also the possibility that a ton of people happen to be doing the same thing as you or are at least online at the same time as you are. This slows things down.
If you can't find a solution on your own or on here i would call sbc help line. They helped me with any issues i had, even when i was trying to connect my wireless router to the box. It was not working correctly and they pulle dup the info and told me what to do and it started working. Good luck|||sounds like you have an ethernet cable burnt out. Put a new cable on see if that helps.I have alot of trouble with my voip burning out the cable between my router and my vonage modem.|||I had thier dsl for five years and sometimes you have to reset your modem because they have been doing upgrades in your area. That is what they had explained to me and when I did this it stayed faster until the next time I had to again.

Online speed test?
i tested my online speed and it said 668.4 kbits and 83.6 kbytes is this good? i got verizon dsl|||I have Verizon DSL also and get about 720 down and 208 up. Some speed is dependent on exactly how much trafic there actually is on your particular line, some times in the day you may get better or worse. your up load does seem a bit low, try the test again later to see what you get and make sure you don't have any background programs using the connection when you do as this will slow down your results (things like anti-virus auto updates, windows auto updates, etc.) If no background programs interfering with results and you can not get better, I would certainly contact Verizon to see what they have to say. Can a phone line splitter be used on DSL to connect 2 computers on high speed?
this is only temporary. can a DSL phone line be split in two to connect 2 computers to the internet. I know a router would be ideal, but this would be only to test a computers ethernet card, drivers, and connection to the internet, can one of those phone line splitters be used? but it seems, you want internet at the two computers but not want a router. you will need two LAN jacks on the main computer and a single LAN jack on other.
you connect the two computers through a CAT5 crossover cable, then, you can share internet.

Why is it that we can't obtain our full internet speed?
I currently have the Verizon DSL plan for 768 kbps, but after I had run the speed test I have a download speed of 0.421 Mbps and an upload speed of 0.132 Mbps when it should be around .7 Mbps. I would like to know why the speed had decreased. Is it because I have multiple devices using the internet or should I just contact them?|||That is a little slow. First try cycling power on your DSL modem and router. Unplug the power cords, then plug in the DSL modem and wait a minute or so for a Internet connection. If you're using a separate router plug it back in, reboot your computer and do a speed test. http://speedtest.net
