I have DSL (speed is 256 k I think) and it would download and upload fine, and then it suddenly slowed waaaay down the download and upload speed. Is there anyway I can make it faster? I took and speed test and this is what I got:
Communications 94.3 kilobits per second
Storage 11.5 kilobytes per second
1MB file download 1.5 minutes
Subjective rating Slow
Help!|||if your sharing connections with someone then that could be the problem, and you should be download at around 700kbs|||To go faster upgarde your line. 8mbit is pretty standard nowadays.|||the most common thing to do is pull the power plug on your modem and router for a couple of minutes and restart them, this will allow them to reset themselves. then go to broadband.com and take the tweek test. follow the prompts and instructions to set up your tcp/ip for broadband. it's set for dial up by default and can slow you down|||Even when you use DSL you use a modem--its just a network one. Through your network connection go to PROPERTIES, then CONFIGURE. Ensure the MAXIMUM speed menu is at its max setting.
Good luck!|||Go to Internet explorer
tools
Internet options
delete temp files and cookies
Run a spyware scan using "ad-aware" or "spybot search and destroy"
Go to start%26gt; run%26gt;type in %temp%
make sure all applications are closed and delete as much as you can
This will clear all the junk that loads up your temp folders
I bet you will see your computer speed up after that :)|||Repeat with these speed tests.

Did you install all the line filters correctly at for every phone, etc, in your house? You may have a bad filter; unplug all the phones with their line filters, if it speeds up track down the bad line filter.
What firewall are you using? I had a similar problem with a firewall I tried. Test the internet speed with your current firewall and then switch to the Windows Firewall and repeat the test.
You may have programs you are not aware of running in the background, malware, etc. using your bandwidth. Install BitMeter. It will monitor what internet traffic is passing through your computer. It can not tell you if other people are using your wireless signal.

BitMeter 2 is a bandwidth meter; it allows you to visually monitor your Internet connection by displaying a scrolling graph that shows your upload and download speed over time. Features include: Graphical and numerical displays of historical data, Web interface, alerts, stopwatch, calculator, transparent/float/click-through modes, 36-page help file, audio notifications, configurable color-schemes and many other options. This will not tell you if other people are using your WIFI; It can only monitor the internet going into your computer.
