I am limited to about 1mb on my dsl and when I test the speed it runs usually between 600kb to almost 1 mb. Does a faster computer have any affect on download speed?|||Yes, this will..because the CPU/Ram/Hard Drive will be faster and the computer will be free of Spyware and Virus's. All this combined will make the Downloads faster. I have several systems here in my home on the same Network and Notice the difference's in each computer. None of my systems have Spyware and Virus's and I still see the difference in performance.
As far as your DSL speeds, you may just have the basic package with DSL and you can upgrade your account to a faster speed. I have ATT Elite DSL and getting 6.3 Mbps or 6300 kb download. I suggest you upgrade your account to a faster speed and if you are still getting slow speeds you should look into cleaning that system and or getting a new computer system if you choose.
Or get one of these

time to upgrade to cable modem.|||I wouldn't expect those speed to improve by replacing the computer. I find that 1MB/s usually means around 800KB/s|||No.|||Generally not. There are several settings on your PC that could affect the your PCs ability to handle the data, which could make you think the Internet is slow. If you think your are having issues with your ISP, call them. They can check your access.|||No.
