Verizon High Speed Internet slow throughput (UNIQUE UNSOLVED PROBLEM)?

I have Verizon DSL and supposed to be getting 3.0 mbps DL/0.768 kbps UL.

Right now, using both speedtest.net and speakeasy.net, I've tested my my DL speed to be as low as 0.02 mbps. That's freaking as slow as dial-up. I've had this issue for the past 2 years and it has gotten worse as I continue to make phone calls to Verizon Tech Support. However, they continue to fail to fix the issue. Verizon keeps saying that the DSL line is running perfectly fine and it is something wrong with my computer. I've been thinking for a long time about this issue.

Now there are 3 contradicting things that are known:

1) When I check the DSL speed by typing 192.168.1.1, it shows the speed that I'm supposed to be getting: 2112 Kbits/sec DL by 832 Kbits/sec UL.

2) On the speed test, it shows the the speed of 0.02 mbps DL by 0.76 mbps UL. The upload speed is fine, but download speed isn't.

3) And finally, Verizon says I'm getting the exact speed I paid for.

Now to diagnose the issue, I've tested and tested each possible problem.

-Computer Issue? Absolutely no way, I've tested the internet with 4 other computers Windows 7 (including 2 brand new ones) and still get the same issue. Also, tested on my itouch.

-Ethernet Wire? Nope, I've tested it with 3 other Ethernet wires. Still no fix.

-DSL Wire? Nope, I've tested it with 2 other DSL wires. Still no fix.

-Power Supply? It might be, but I highly doubt it. Though haven't tested it with another power supply.

-Modem Versalink 327W? Likely to be the problem in my opinion. I've had the modem for 3 years. Could be exhausted as it gets old.

-In-house Wiring? Could be the problem since the phone line wires in my house are pretty old and haven't been replaced for several years. Though, I've never touched them, so not sure if any of them could have become defective.

-Outside Wiring? Definitely an issue to my insane disconnection and slow throughput. When it rains/snows, my internet just drops and lags like crazy. However, that is not only the issue, since I've currently been getting slow internet and dropping when it an't raining/snowing.

-Verizon DSL is a joke and just hates me? Well, I've had that in my head for a while now. Heh.

Well guys, I just wanted to share my viewpoint of my issue and to see if anyone has a solution or any opinion to help me out here. Thanks.|||Sounds like a wiring problem to me. If your Internet changes dramatically when it rains or snows, that's not the modems fault.

Here's a good thread on similar problems: http://forums.verizon.com/t5/High-Speed-鈥?/a>

If you have old outside phone wiring, and Verizon refuses to repair or replace it, then I would call and threaten to switch to a competitor unless they resolve the problem. Or you could just switch to a cable or fiber Internet service. Both are faster, and more stable methods to get broadband Internet in my honest opinion

You can go to a ISP comparison site and see what's available. A lot will depend on what Internet providers are available in your specific area, and what levels of service they offer in that location.

For instance DSL Internet might be better in one city, and cable Internet options better in another. DSL is generally cheaper than cable Internet, however the cable plans are usually faster.

Find a ISP comparison site that lets you input your address, http://isp1.us/find/ and compare the pricing and terms of the offers that are available in you area.

You'll want to pick the fastest plan that fits your budget. In some areas this can be 100Mbps+. But these high end broadband plans are expensive. You may find that something in the 3 to 20Mbps range might satisfy your needs at a much lower cost.

Choose the best one for your Internet usage and budget.

Good Luck|||I'm having the same problem with my DSL. I've used the 327W also for a while, but bought also the 6100G asdl2+ hardware. Still only connect at 2112 / 864. When I ran the wire for the DSL, I used CAT 4 wire, which is better shielded telco wire. Verizon yet to get back to me, but thinking 4G is next.

|||switch to cable internet.

switch to a different wall port.|||Verizon Dsl is a joke its basically dialup but you are allowed to talk on the phone.

Dsl will never be fast upgrade to Verizon fios or switch to a different Internet service provider.

See thats what they advertise I checked the plan that is verizon DSL 3 mb download speed and it says 1.5 - 3 mbs download speed . But you are always getting less with them and you never download at the top speed.

I had Dsl switch to Fios but its not cheap. I later canceled it and now I tether my internet connection with my phone and now I dont pay for ISP because my phone plan has unlimited data plan

Try switching internet browsers try Google Chrome its faster than firefox. Internet Explorer is slow and not secure.|||Gotta go with the modem for sure. Get a new one that you are sure supports the latest DSL protocols. As you said, it's not the computer, I agree. Could be wiring but I doubt it as the modem is telling you that the uplink is slightly over 2 Mbps. Try a new modem.

Also if you are close to the max distance from your DSL node this can really diminish your speeds.
