Download/Upload Speed Seem Pretty Low?

Well, first off, my family DOES have DSL connection, however lately my streaming and flash videos online have been VERY choppy and have been buffering quite a lot. Well, I decided to go to Speakeasy.net and run a speed test and these were the results:

Download Speed: 275 kpbs

Upload Speed: 106 kpbs

These numbers seem very low for DSL-speed internet. (I have NCISP if that matters or not)

What could be some causes for this?

thanks!|||unfortunately, your family is paying for the slowest possible dsl speed one can buy (256kbps), so you're stuck

unless you persuade your family to upgrade the internet speed|||Ya, thats slow. The T-carrier is 1.5Mbps each way. Call your ISP and complain. If some one else on your LAN is using a lot of P2P apps, tell them to stop, or enable QoS on your router or buy a QoS router or buy a separate QoS box (much cheaper).

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.as鈥?/a>|||There are a number of reasons it can be extra slow. First off go to the speedguide site listed below. They have free utilities to speed up you connection. The only reason these work is because when you install windows, it always assumes you are in a cubicle attached to a office network. Not so most of the time, and so the communications protocols can be optimized to work with your connection.

If you will go to www.pcpitstop.com they will analyze your computer determine your actual speed and recommend certain fixes, like the internet cache, etc.

It is also possible that your IP has sold too many subscriptions on one server. When everyone is on, the speed and bandwidth suffer. Certain times of day may be worse than others.|||Check what the actual speed is meant to be. Also check their policy regarding shared bandwidth. If they use this, your connection can get slower each time they provide more services.|||well for DSL that is pretty low i have charter 3 MBPS and download stream is 3000 kpbs upload around 250kpbs.....u maybe have firewall or somekind of anti-virus that may limit ur connection speeds....also it can it u maybe have other downloads on or other videos buffering ....and it can reduce speed....
