How to improve internet connection speed

i did a test at www.speedtest.net and i have a really bad connection:

top download- (in the 300s)

top upload- (in the early 300s)

average from my ISP (California)- (in the 2000s)

ping- from 58 to 98 to 64

how do i improve my dsl speed

I dont know if it matters but my dsl modem is about 2 years old (siemen's speedstream)

include options with and without money

I had just downloaded something called "Accelerate 4.0" and it didn't seem to do anything|||Contact your internet provider and ask them to fix it. It should be a lot faster than what you are getting. I actually get more than i am supposed too from my internet provider for download. You do have good ping though.

It could be your computer... but I doubt it. Like my windows 98se maxs out at about 560kbps, no matter what, but when I use xubuntu on the same computer, I get about 1280kbps and I am only suppose to get about 1mbps. If you had another computer you could try to compare results. Although I still think this sound like a internet provider problem.
