I have 4mbps DSL connection with Saudi telecom (STC) but speed is 50kbps to 600kbps max. Is it just me?

I used to have 1mbps DSL connection working perfectly. Suddenly, my speed dropped to lower than 100kbps, surprisingly at the same time STC releases faster speeds.

So, I upgraded to 4mbps. Now, my DSL modem connects at 3.5mbps instead of 4mbps and the maximum speed I get with downloads ranges between 50kbps to 600kbps and never more. If I connect through dialup on the same line, I sometimes get better performance than my 4mbps DSL line.

I opened 7 trouble tickets with STC since February 2008 and 4 complaints, and I got empty promises and lies. I'm stuck paying a lot of money for dialup speed.

If I test my connection using http://www.speedtest.net/ I get around 300kbps most of the time.

Is it just me? What can I do?|||Well you can only download data from a web server at the speed it can send it to you. so if a web server can only send it to you at 600kbps, then thats as fast as it will go.

i have an 8mbps internet connection but only get 7616 kbps, and thats because of the distance i live from the exchange, the further you live, the slower your speed will be, so your 4mbps connection only being 3.5 is normal.
