How do I speed up my Internet without paying?

I've tried virtually everything...OpenDNS, Full Speed, even tweaking the cmd...but all the speed test websites show that my speeds are exactly the same, and it actually feels that my Internet has gotten slower. Yes, I installed and used all these things correctly, and yet I'm not getting the huge performance boosts that many are talking about. I am currently paying for 768 kb/s DSL.|||It is up to your ISP|||All these programs create so much load on the machine they actually do slow it down. They are total scams. Some of them are actually spyware. Unload them all. Your speed will depend on your provider, how far you are from the exchange, and the quality of the line from the exchange to your house. Unfortunately you left out the most important detail, what speed you are getting.|||delete any of the things you don't use on your desktop. and take off stuff you have downloaded, even little things (screen savers from the internet, certain java to play games) if you have had multiple cameras, phones, or ipods, chances are the software is still downloaded for your old ones, abort them. then restart the computer, it should help.|||check with your isp|||Only your ISP can boost your connection speed. Other software will not really do anything.
