Internet connection/speed help?

I am computer illiterate.





I am having trouble with the internet connection with my Verizon DSL.





The McAffee Speed test say my internet speed is 600KB.





But, I keep getting kicked off of the internet and the Verizon tech said that,"There is a lot of noise on the lines."





How do you know if Verizon has sold more internet service than their bandwidth capacity is?





My computer is five years old.





Any ideas on how I can speed it up?





I have been using Mozilla Firefox.





What is the best/faster browser?|||this is not a typical issue that would be resolved by software remeber that no matter what connection you subscribe to you internet should not just drop this is a definet connection problem
