when i had my internet hooked up, i took the biggest package they had which is - 1.5m/512k dsl. but it still seems slow. WHAT SHOULD MY AVERAGE DOWNLOAD SPEED BE. i dont really know much about speed test or where i should do the test at. i live in smithville TN. and my provider is dtccom.net but i cant find a speed test on their website. when i go to other sites they are for other states, does that matter or should i do it locally? |||First the download tests in the net are not accurate. Better download a download accelerator like Download Accelerator Plus, http://www.speedbit.com/downloads/, and try downloading stuff using the program from a fast site like that of Nvidia.

Theoretically, your average download speed should be 188 KByte/sec. Due to restrictions, anything close to 150 Kbytes/sec should be considered just fine. If you have close to 100 Kbytes/sec or lower, in many different hours of the day, then you have a problem.|||test at any website just google bandwidth test.|||http://www.google.com/search?q=internet+鈥?/a>

typically, cable is faster. and more expensive.
however, phone company has a different method that may be faster, if it's available in your area yet.
keep in mind, DSL is DSL no matter who you're paying for it.|||You can check it anywhere.I usually use 3 different places and just take the average. You need to divide your speed by 8 to get your true speed.1500kb/8 =187.5KB I have the same speed as you and mine is usually right around 185KB when I'm downloading.|||first of all i would use cable not dsl (digital subscriber line) well first 1.5mb isn't fast but good enough and i think you can get cable reasonable cheap and if you want to test your speed go to speedtest.net and select a location to test it on that should be about your average this answer was impart of geeksforu.smfforfree2.com come visit us with your computer questions
