Our dsl plan is "1 Meg Zoom Net" blah blah (that's the name on our provider's (local telephone company) brochure). A free speed test told me my download speed was approx 500 kb/s (just under 512). Average download speed on a p2p program is normally max around 100ish Kbps. What do these mean? And maybe how long should it take to download a 10 megabyte file?
Also, would increasing my computer's memory improve said speed any? (my guess is no, but I'm not sure)|||Most Internet Providers will provide download speeds slower than advertised because just like everyone else - they oversell and there is only so much bandwidth.
Your connection speeds are on the slow side - but it sure beats dial up!! 500 kilobytes per second - dial up is around 45 kb/s.
Adding more memory will not improve your connection speed but it will help the performance of your computer.
