Please estimate my internet speed for a laptop (using router)?

Ok, I recently ordered laptop+router and was wondering how much of internet speed I would be able to get. I need some expertise on this, so please do not say it's going to be fast enough / just wait for it to come blah blah etc.

First, my wired DSL speed for main desktop (I ran speed test):

2.54Mbps (430kbps for upload)

Second, my laptop's wireless card: Intel 4965AGN Wireless-N Mini-card (supposedly 300Mbps is max, but we know it's not gonna happen)

Third, my router: Linksys WRT160N Wireless Router (not much of an idea how good this is, but we know it's better than normal G's)

Fourth, I will be using this laptop in my room, which is about 20~25ft away from where router will be (plus 1 wall in the way).

Thank you!|||your bottle neck will be your internet connection speed. You can only be as fast as your weakest link. it doesn't matter what type of ethernet card you have (10/100, 1000, wireless g or n) you are only going to get what your internet connection allows. if you are transferring data around on your internal network it will be alot faster than transferring over the internet.|||you should get around the same or close to what your desktop is getting|||speed test. www://toast.net|||First it depend on bandwidth speed you receive if you do not know your bandwidth speed test it here

The wall will not make any difference unless you are using

WI-Fi ,wireless ,then it depend on wall materials ,also metal and electronic stuff that disturbs your radio frequency,,including TV and cell phone microwave....

IF you are using N card with G router ,it does not make much of different than using G card and G router ,You get advantage for quantity(distance a bit) Not quality(better range may.be)..

if you want max speed you Must have N card with N router.

20 to 25 feet away is descent distance,,

I would recommend Airport Extreme Router ,I use it for classrooms Wi-Fi it is very stable and good speed.I tried D-link and Sys-link also Balkini ..connection was not stable at all I replace them with Airport I got great result.|||Unless ALL the equipment is from the same manufacturer your speed will be limited to G standard 54Mbps. This is much faster than your connection.
