From AT%26amp;T (my ISP), Speakeasy, and Speedtest.net,
download speed was about 1300 kbps (1.3 Mb/s).
For a bunch of others, (CNET, SPRINT, DSLReports, and Bandwidthplace) it was half of that or less (500 - 700).
The ones that did upload tests were pretty consistent -
around 320. I know upload is slower.
So, what's the scoop ? What's the real number ?|||Download a huge file from a reputed server that has no bandwidth limitations (i.e. dont use rapidshare etc) and do not use a download accelerator or parallel connections. See what download speed you get.
Also contact your ISP for details about your internet package. Ask for promised data rate and maximum data rate.|||Both answers missed the point.
The reason for the slower tests was that they were CPU-BOUND.
The Java tests at DSLreports were less cpu-intensive and got the higher transfer rate.

|||Distance could make a difference, but not that much. DSLReports lets you use several companies. Speakeasy is one of them.
