What is the technology of cable internet? Why does it have no limit on speed vs. DSL?

The fastest DSL in my area is 1.5mbps, but I see that if you sign up for cable internet, it can go up to 60mbps. What is the difference in technology? Are there any cons to cable internet? I currently have DSL which supposedly feeds me 1.5mbps, but when I do a speed test, I'm getting close to 2mbps.|||Most xDSL are still on copper wire technology, theres a limit on how much could travel on them due to the conductivity of the material, at one stage, its even amazing to see any broadband speed using the technology but over the years, the replacement of wire here and wire there made it possible.

Cable internet, on the other hand is different, they first started using direct cabling so there are more bandwidth allowed, and over the years they started changing them to fibra optic technology, as we all know, speed of light is the fastest way for anything to travel...I guess you could work out the rest ...
