DSL hardware troubleshooting - What are common slowdown causes? How can I test what the maximum speed could be?

I activated my DSL service early last week, and since then I've been unable to reach anything close to my maximum speed range. In fact, the AT%26amp;T self support tool notified me of connection problems but was unable to resolve it, and when I last spoke to AT%26amp;T support, I was told that I was in an "optimization" period which apparently is BS from what I was later told by others.





Additionally, I received this information about my broadband statistics:





(First number, Since reset. Second, Current 24-Hour Interval)

ATM Loss of Cell Delineation: 3795 1





DSL Link Retrains: 8 1





DSL Training Errors: 6 0





DSL Training Timeouts: 0 0

DSL Loss of Power Failures: 0 0





DSL Loss of Margin Failures: 27 0





DSL Cumulative Errored Seconds: 3241 635





DSL Severely Errored Seconds: 93 1





DSL Corrected Blocks: 0 0





DSL Uncorrected Blocks: 12042 1555





Is there a way to read how much of that is hardware and how much is software related? Also, would AT%26amp;T charge me to send out a technician to check the phone lines outside by house to see if that's hindering my DSL?|||Have you gone through all the usual culprits?





Like, is your modem ok?





Is your network adapter ok? Does it have updated drivers?





Are you using wireless? If so, are you within range of your router? Is it having issues? Do you have any other wireless devices that might be interfering with the signal? Is your router outside of your concrete room?





Have you run tests on sites like http://www.speedtest.net?





Have you tried the fabled "ipconfig /release %26amp; renew" trick?





We need to know if you've tried all the usual suspects, which, consequently, happens to be an amazing movie.
