My DSL is slow , but test sites say the speed is good. My actual download speed is about 40 KBS (SUX). ideas?

my isp says the line checks out ok, but appears traffic pulling from my connection( they say possible malware), Is it possible to get slow dsl speed from spyware or malware)? Computer runs fine, only about 6 months old|||If http://www.dslreports.com/speedtest says your connection is running at a good speed (try some servers not near you, as well as some near you), you're trying to download from a slow swerver, a server that has a heavy load (a lot of people are downloading from it) or via a slow path. There's no "fix" for any of them.

If DSLReports says that your connection is slow there may be things you can do to speed it up. (If it's close to the speed your provider claims you have, it's not slow.)|||Yeah it is possible. Malware and/or spyware can use up your bandwidth. Run a virus scan and a malware removal tool. Spyware Doctor works great.

It also depends on what you are downloading and what program. If you are downloading torrents or using limewire then your slow download speeds could just be a firewall or NAT issue. If this is a case set up a port forward or set up a static ip. That will help.
