Internet speed question?

Ok from what i know i have a 2mb line. now when i go to dslreports.com to get my speed test i clear about 1.4mb download and about 274 upload which would be cool... if i was getting it when i download files online or download files though mangers i down load at about 187 kb now i tested this while connected to the router and while connected to the dsl box i still downloaded at about 180 max and an average of about 170. as for my upload it likes to try and pass my download when it can while i torrent files (legal use of course so don't go their) now i have 2 wireless computers connected as well that average about the same speed 1 is a laptop another is a desktop because i'm to lazy to run a line to it. the computer i'm on is a desktop connected into it. i was wondering if the speed dsl test gives and the speed that i get on my computer are suppose to be different things or am i getting screwed. i would call them and complain but its the weekend so not much i can do tell tomorrow because i'm 95% sure i'm getting screwed some where|||well... ok heres the thing





the 2mb you know is your bandwidth, now if you run a speedtest from speedtest.net, you'll get there the thoughput, which is your actual and current bandwidth...





now, if you got 1.44mb for your throughput, i think its just about right coz its it almost reaches the 75% mark of your bandwidth... 75% means your connection is still good anything below that is bad and you got to contact your ISP....





now 1.44mb is your thoughput, question is what is your goodput? goodput is the good and useful signal from that 1.44 mb thoughput...





now you connect two devices... your router will get the same, but keep in mind that the connection will be divided to two coz your internet connection is shared to two computers...





now, last thing, wireless operates in half duplex... meaning you can only either transmit or receive at a time, you cant do both on the same time... this makes the connection going to your wireless device slower... but since it is wireless, advantage is mobility





wired on the other hand, most devices nowadays wire connection operates on full duplex, you can transmit and receive both at the same time... this is faster than wireless but your connection has to be wired...





hope that helps....|||Your 2Mb line is 2 Mega Bit line. But when you actually download something it measures speed in Mega Bytes. A byte is 8 times larger than a bit. I'm not an IT expert so I don't know the reason to measure the speed in Bits.|||Try www.speedtest.net


Remember that downloads are in bytes per second, ISP speed is bits/second|||it would normally be a firewall that causes this but if u have uninstalled it that wnt be the problem.what is your bandwidth s`posed to be?





it probably inst spyware that it causing this problem.possibly a virus.do a virus scan to iliminate the obvious.if that fails resore your





computer to a restore point when the modem was working correctly.or IMO honest opinion do a fresh install of XP as looking for a problem like





that could be tricky without a technician being present
